Annual Awards Recognize Outstanding Residential and Commercial Hardscape Projects by Contractors throughout North America

Louisville, KY – The winners and honorable mention recipients of the 2016 HNA Hardscape Project Awards were announced on Thursday, October 20 at 2016 Hardscape North America, the industry’s largest tradeshow in North America.

Fifteen winners and 15 honorable mentions received awards, which honor projects by contractors building residential walkways, patios, driveways, and commercial plazas, parking lots, and streets. The awards are sponsored by the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI), the Brick Industry Association (BIA), and National Concrete Masonry Association (NCMA).

In its ninth year, the awards program received 114 entries. Entries were judged on project intent, design, quality of construction and craftsmanship, compatibility with related construction materials and systems, construction innovation, detailing and overall design excellence.

HNA Installer Championship 2

On October 20th and 21st, 24 teams from across the United States and Canada competed in the fourth HNA Installer Championship. In the preliminary round each team was given 60 minutes to construct an 8 ft x 10 ft interlocking concrete patio with a small seat wall as detailed in the drawings provided to each team. Each installation was judged based on criteria related to safety, craftsmanship and compliance to industry best practices. The teams with the top four scores moved on to the final championship round where they were given 90 minutes to construct their own creative design.

After the dust had settled, the HNA 2016 Installer Champion was Oak Leaf Landscaping of Danville, OH with team members Tobias Yoder, Daniel Nisley and Owen Nisley. In the final championship round they scored 402 out of a possible 450 points. As champions they received a prize package that included a $1,000 award, an iQ Powertools 360 14” dustless masonry table saw with accessories, and a Weber MT’s CF3 Pro forward plate compactor.

Second place was awarded to the Cheeseheads Team, Zillges Materials of Oshkosh, WI with team members Emmanuel Oesterreich and Jourdain Oesterreich. In the championship round they scored 393. They received a $400 award and an iQ Powertools 360 dustless masonry table saw.

Third place was awarded to Epic Pavers of Evless, TX with team members Luis Garcia, Jose Garcia and Samuel Guijarro. In the championship round they scored 388 points. For their efforts the team received a $100 award.

Fourth place was awarded to LR Landscaping of Lincoln, CA with team members Lee Reveles, Daniel Preciado, Elmer Casasola. In the championship round they scored 378 points.

All four teams that advanced to the final Championship round also received a hand tool package provided by Ox Tools, a plaque, and tons of free publicity.

Louisville, KY (August 16, 2016) – The 2016 Hardscape North America Installer Championships competition is now accepting registration forms for the 4th annual event. The final Hardscape North America Installer Championships will be held this year at the HNA trade show, October 20-21. Four (4) Regional Installer Championships have been added this year in four cities around the United States to build excitement leading up to the final competition. The selected cities for these regional competitions are: Fort Worth, Texas; San Jose, California; Cincinnati, Ohio and Lacy, Washington.
